A unique experience engaging with the Irish landscape which is tailored to your individual and group requirements.  Spend some time taking in the colours and shifting light around the Inishowen Peninsula, absorbing the skylines and atmosphere in a very special way. 

En plein air is simply about painting in the great outdoors.  This experience gives each participant in depth understanding of techniques in oil and acrylic painting, and their own expanded perception of composition, colour mixing, shape and form, while painting this beautiful Peninsula at the most northernly point in Ireland. 

It is suitable for beginners to advanced, no prior experience is necessary as the tutor can encourage anyone to get out there and paint, in their own distinctive style, with a focus on fun and relaxation.

Materials (oils, acrylics, canvas boards and brushes) can be provided and paintings can be dried and returned to participants by post at an additional cost, or participants are welcome to bring their own painting materials and their own standing easels.  A materials list can be provided on request.

Information on Artist

Sinéad Smyth is a Donegal based visual artist, based at Inishowen Artists’ Retreat and Studio, who has a passion for encouraging and tutoring en plein air painting in Inishowen. She specialises in oils, teaching Landscape, Seascape and sensory interpretation of the environment through painting outdoors.

Sinéad has 28 years’ experience in creative facilitation and teaching, including the Turner Prize, Thames Festival London, The British Council, City of Culture, Belfast City Council and other Council based projects in Donegal and Northern Ireland.  Her own paintings form part of several public and private collections. Sinéad is a professional member of Visual Artists Ireland, an invited member of The Drawing Box International and recently invited collaborator with the Irish EPA Multidisciplinary Creative Project at NUI Galway. 

NB: This is a group experience, a minimum of 8 people is required.
