John & Sally McKenna
John Reynolds and his team at Culdaff’s iconic McGrory’s Hotel love to surprise us all.
You might turn up here just to enjoy a few days relaxation, and to enjoy elegant and deeply considered Donegal food, but then you hear that those superb Saharan sonic superstars, Bombino, are playing in The Back Room, and you say: Bombino? In Inisowen? In far-flung North Donegal! For real?!
it could only happen in McGrory’s. In days gone by you might have heard Townes Van Zandt play here, amidst a plethora of the great and the extra-great. McGrory’s has always been a cult destination for musicians, and for travellers who want to imbibe the away-from-it-all calmness of Culdaff and Inisowen, travellers who simply want to sit down in the unique Front Bar and get back in touch with their soul.
Mr Reynold’s is determined to preserve and personify the family stewardship that has defined McGrory’s for almost a century now – the business first began way, way back in 1924 when John’s grandfather first opened the doors. There is ambition, and determination, evident here, as McGrory’s heads towards a century of wonderful service to Inisowen.
