Charles James & The Rise are a cinematic folk band from Donegal, Ireland. Musically the band is influenced by the darker side of folk and the more haunting elements of choral music.

Past highlights include being named Highland Radio’s winner in Hot Press’ A New Local Hero in 2023. 2024 single Carry On was named Hot Press’ Track of the Day upon release and also saw the band named one of Rolling Stone Magazine’s (ES) 20 Artists You Should Know.

2025 saw the band showcase at Your Roots Are Showing festival, release their debut album along with an Irish headline tour including a special guest appearance on RTE Radio 1’s Sunday with Miriam. 

The band have supported acts such as Mundy, Gavin James, Blue Rose Code, Moya Brennan and Padraig Jack among others.

Becoming known for pairing their cinematic sound with ambitious visuals, the Greatest Prize music video was named a winner at Kinsale Shark Awards 2025 while the Sailor and the Saint was named Music Video Of The Year 2025 at Disappear Here Film Festival.

Charles James and The Rise’ debut album was released in September 2025.
